Fall Protection Lanyards

Fall protection lanyards are a vital part of your fall protection system. The safety lanyards normally connect one end to a D-ring on the back of a fall protection harness and the other end to a secure anchor point. The lanyard works to slowly decelerate a person falling by using an energy-absorbing shock pack or a bungee that breaks away.

Beyond fall arrest applications, lanyards are used to securely position the worker allowing him or her to stay safely in place. These positioning lanyards are commonly used when tying rebar in walls and columns or for similar projects. Many construction professionals use fall protection lanyards, including concrete form carpenters, iron workers, electricians, glazers, and most other trades on the job site.

Safety lanyards are manufactured in a variety of materials including, web, cable rope, and chain. Web style lanyards are the most common lanyards, because they are lightweight, but strong, and offer the same basic features as other lanyards. Fire resistant web and cable lanyards are more popular among welders because of their resistant to heat and flame.

Fall lanyards are available with either one or two legs. Single leg lanyards are the most common and are what most people require for general applications. Lanyards with two legs (dual leg) are used when 100 percent tie off is required. Dual leg lanyards allow the user to move through and around objects while always having one leg of the lanyard secured.

Lanyards are also available with different types of safety snap hooks on the ends. Standard snap hooks are the most common and are what are on the ends of most single and Dual leg lanyards. Another common style is the rebar hook. The rebar hook is larger and has a larger opening so it is easier to tie off to larger objects.
